Shree Mahaveer Jain Hindi Vidyalaya was opened on 26th January 1967 to meet a genuine need of the Hindi‑speaking and Jain community of Perambur, Chennai.
During the early sixties, the Hindi‑speaking residents of Perambur, and the Jain community in particular, felt a great need for a school that would impart education to their young wards through Hindi medium — one that would instil the teaching, values and culture of Jainism. The Jain Society of Perambur took up this challenge and decided to meet the genuine necessity of the students.
Shree Mahaveer Jain Hindi Vidyalaya was opened by the late Padma Bhushan Shri Mohanmalji Chordia on 26th January 1967, at the Jain Prayer Hall, No. 91, Market Street, Perambur, Chennai – 600 011.
To begin with, the school was run mainly on donations contributed by the philanthropic members of the Jain Society. Fees were not collected from the students, making it a pioneering endeavour towards free education. The Smt. Chandabai Pagariya Jain Trust has helped poor students every year through scholarships, specially utilised for imparting religious instruction.
Opened by late Padma Bhushan Shri Mohanmalji Chordia at the Jain Prayer Hall, Market Street, Perambur.

The school expanded into English medium classes, which quickly became popular among the people of Perambur.
The Committee decided to shift Mahaveer Jain Hindi Vidyalaya and merge it with Smt. Chandabai Pagariya Jain Matriculation Higher Secondary School.
All children — Pre‑KG, LKG, UKG and Std. I to XII — were shifted to the merged school, which now runs from Pre‑KG through XII Std.
The school follows the Matriculation syllabus of education from VI up to X Std., and the State Board syllabus for XI and XII Students.
We remain ever grateful to late Sri Devilalji Bomb and Sri Anrajji Bohra, the former correspondents of our school, for their contribution to this journey.
Boys and girls maintain good discipline and decorum. The school promotes activities like Road Safety Patrol, Karuna Club, Exnora Club and Scouts.
Strong teams in Volley Ball, Kho‑kho, Tennikoit and Throw Ball, with National Players in our Volley Ball Team and many Zonal victory cups.
Students passing out of XII Std. gain admission in various reputed colleges, and our children have won many medals & certificates in inter‑school competitions.
